The Neurosurgery Program at Westside Regional Medical Center brings together the collaborative efforts and experience of highly skilled physician specialists, nurses, technologists and other neurological health professionals.
The comprehensive program offers a full range of diagnostic modalities, medical and surgical procedures, rehabilitation, preventive care and additional medical and support services for patients with neurological disorders.
Facilities include dedicated operating rooms equipped with the latest surgical technology and a specialized neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Designed by a team of leading specialists, Westside Regional Medical Center's Neurosurgery Program is comprised of a team of experienced neurosurgeons, neurologists, radiologists, neuroradiologists and internists.
Together, these medical and surgical specialists combine their expertise and experience to provide patients with the latest scientific advances in their respective fields.
When a patient has symptoms of a neurological disorder, the experts at Westside Regional Medical Center utilize the state-of-the art diagnostic equipment such as the GE Medical Systems 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system (the most advanced MRI system currently available), two Computerized Tomography (CT) scanners (one with 3-D spiral imaging), a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner, and a host of general diagnostic radiology equipment.
Tests are performed using the latest, most effective methods and are tailored to meet the needs of individual patients. On the cutting Edge of Neurosurgical Innovations A number of medical and surgical procedures are performed by the staff of the Neurosurgery Program to treat neurological disorders. Included among these interventions are innovative and highly advanced procedures such as StealthStation image-guided neurosurgery, GDC minimally invasive intervention, pallidotomy and pre-operative embolization of brain tumors.
By providing one-on-one care by licensed physical and speech therapists, an individualized treatment program is implemented to maximize the patient's recovery from their neurological procedure on both an in and outpatient basis.
These services include a variety of exercise and walking programs designed to improve the patient's strength, balance, coordination and endurance. Speech Pathology services include the use of Modified Video Fluoroscopy and exercise programs, can assist patients who have voice, speech and/or swallowing difficulties.
Support Units and Services
The facility has a dedicated Intensive Care Unit designed specifically to care for pre- and post-operative neurosurgery patients. Specially trained nurses, state-of-the-art monitoring devices, pharmaceutical treatments and other services are available 24 hours a day to facilitate the patient's health and recovery.
