  • Reduced nausea

Preoperative examination and testing

Preparing for your procedure is an important part of your surgical journey and often includes preoperative testing.

Preoperative care

Preoperative testing is usually scheduled 48-72 hours in advance of the surgery. Typically, a physician will order these tests, including blood tests, electrocardiography (EKG), X-rays and an anesthesiologist visit. All laboratory blood work must be completed 14 days before surgery. Chest X-rays and EKGs are valid up to 30 days before surgery.

If you are scheduled to take a preoperative exam, you should bring:

  • A list of current medications and dosages you take
  • Your insurance information
  • All laboratory results, X-rays and your physician's evaluation

You will be provided a detailed preparation guide to surgery, where you will find more information on what to expect when arriving to surgery and from a postoperative perspective.
