The East Florida Consortium General Surgery Residency Program offers 4 categorical positions per academic year. Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Below, please see the requirements for the application process.

Application requirements

US graduates (MDs and Dos)

  • ERAS Application (deadline is December 15)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School transcript
  • Dean's Letter - MSPE
  • 3 letters of recommendation (written within the last 6 months)
  • USMLE Step 1 & 2 and/or COMLEX Parts 1 & 2 (exams passed on first attempt preferred)
  • Photo (color)

International Medical Graduates

In addition to the application requirements above, please provide the following documentation.

  • J1 Visas and Permanent Residents accepted. We do not accept H1B visas.
  • Valid ECFMG certificate
  • Graduation within the last 3 years
  • Medical School diploma (if applicable)
  • Dean's Letter
  • 3 letters of recommendation (written within the last 6 months)
  • Clinical experience in the US (hands-on preferred)
  • Fluency and understanding of the English language

Interview process

Applications are reviewed by the Program Director, Program Coordinator and selected Surgery Faculty. Interviews are by invitation only and are sent via email through ERAS. On the evening before the interview day, there will be a dinner with the Leadership team of the program and residents. Candidates will receive an email with details of the venue and the time of reservation.

The interview day begins at Westside Regional Medical in Plantation, FL with the last interview session ending at 11am. Candidates will then tour the campus and have lunch soon after. After lunch, candidates will have shuttle service to Northwest Medical Center in Margate, FL where they will meet and greet with our team at that location and tour the facility. After the tour, shuttle service will provide transportation back to Westside Regional Medical Center for the wrap up of the day at around 4pm.
