by a state-of-the-art advanced security system. Our
maternity patients enjoy hotel-style room service and

High-Risk Maternity and Perinatal Services
Plantation General Hospital’s Perinatal Unit (PNU)
is equipped to successfully care for women having
complications during pregnancy and their babies.
Our Perinatal Unit is managed by a team of
perinatologists, neonatologists, radiologists,
anesthesiologists, and other highly skilled specialists.
Neonatal Intensive Care
For newborns in need of specialized care, Plantation
General Hospital offers the most advanced neonatal
intensive care services. Our Level III Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit is one of the top units in the
United States when judged by positive outcomes.
We are proud to be the only hospital in Florida to
receive The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of
Approval
®
for its Prematurity Program. The 31-bed
unit offers Level III treatment for newborns in need
of critical care and a Level II progressive care unit
for more-stable babies. We also provide a state-of-
the-art NICU transport team ensuring safe transfer
to Plantation General Hospital from other hospitals.
The NICU utilizes specialty infant beds designed
for the safe monitoring and stable environment that
high-risk infants require. To ensure safe medication
administration, Plantation General Hospital uses
the most advanced pharmacy safety measures and
has a dedicated infant/pediatric pharmacy staffed
by trained pediatric pharmacists. The teams in the
NICU include experts who place specialized IV lines.
All these measures ensure the highest level of care
for the most fragile infants.
Pediatric Services
Plantation General Hospital provides the highest
quality, family-centered healthcare to children
through a full spectrum of medical programs,
surgical services and intensive pediatric care.
Our highly skilled pediatric physicians, nurses,
therapists and other healthcare professionals
deliver innovative treatment in a facility that is
both technologically advanced and child friendly.
We have a dedicated pediatric emergency room that is
open 24 hours a day. This is separate from the adult
emergency room to ensure that children receive the
special care they need. Our pediatric intensive care
unit is equipped with the latest technology and
staffed by pediatric intensivists. Our pediatric
in-patient unit provides compassionate care for
critically ill children in a comfortable environment.
We offer pediatric sedation for children having
to undergo particularly painful or distressing
procedures. Children tend to be scared and uneasy
during certain procedures, therefore the sedation
technique puts them at ease and allows them to
return to their regular routines without remembering
the procedure afterward. Once a child is fully
recovered from the effects of the sedation, which
is often less than three hours, they are able to walk
out of the hospital.
Our comprehensive network of physicians includes
pediatricians and pediatric specialists including
allergy & immunology, cardiology, general
surgeons, endocrinology, gastroenterology,
nephrology, neurology, ophthalmology,
orthopedics, otolaryngology, plastic surgery,
pulmonology and rheumatology.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery, or laparoscopic surgery,
is becoming the predominant technique in many areas
of surgery. For most patients, this approach offers
substantially less scarring, decreased pain, shorter
recovery times and reduced risk of secondary
complications. These procedures are performed
through small incisions that allow for the insertion
of surgical instruments and a camera, which enables
the surgeon to view the procedure on video monitors
in the operating room. This approach is considered
less invasive because it replaces the need for the
large incisions required in traditional surgeries.
At Plantation General Hospital, the use of robotics
is taking minimally invasive surgery to the next level.
Our surgeons use the da Vinci
®
S Surgical System to
perform surgical procedures through high-definition
cameras with extraordinary precision, control and
range of motion.
Special Care Unit
The goal of this unit is to help adult patients reach
their maximum potential for recovery as quickly as
possible. We provide a step-down model which
includes cardiac monitoring, specially trained
nurses, aggressive pulmonary rehabilitation and
case management services, along with physical,
occupational and speech therapy.
