Awards & Recognition
Many awards and recognitions were given to
University Hospital & Medical Center (UHMC),
acknowledging not only the outstanding patient
care and services provided, but also the
outreach efforts that support various civic,
government and community groups. For the
second year in a row, UHMC was named a top
performer in quality and safety in the Joint
Commission’s Report on Quality and Safety
2012. UHMC was also recertified as a Primary
Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. To
earn this distinction, a disease management
program undergoes an extensive, unannounced,
on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission
reviewers every two years. These programs
are evaluated against Joint Commission
standards through an assessment of a
program’s processes, and ability to evaluate
and improve care within its own organization,
as well as interviews with patients and staff.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida awarded
the Blue Distinction® certification in Hip and
Knee Replacement to UHMC for delivering
high-quality orthopedic healthcare. This
designation is based on rigorous criteria
established with input from expert physicians
and medical organizations. Its goal is to help
consumers consistently find quality specialty
care. The Joint Commission also awarded its
certification to University Hospital through its
Hip and Knee Surgery Disease-Specific Care
Certification Program. These certifications
acknowledge University Hospital’s continuous
compliance with top-notch orthopedic care.
